In 2004, MB Petroleum’s New Technologies and Production Solutions (NTPS) department was formed with an objective to become the most preferred Petroleum Engineering (PE) services supplier in not just Oman but the entire Middle East. Today, the department is recognised as the new technologies pioneer and customised production solutions inventor. NTPS had a productive year 2006 as it made MB Petroleum proud by developing five innovative technologies in the year.

For the last two consecutive years, using NTPS’s inhouse customised innovative technology, the Live Intervention Platform for Dual Headed Beam Pump wells successfully accomplished real production logging (PLT) surveys for PDO producers. In PDO’s history (and perhaps global records too), this is the first time logging has been performed safely while producing from a beam pumper (sucker rod well). The advantages of PLT, as far as reservoir management and production injection optimisation are considered, are countless especially in the light of rising oil prices. As a testimony of NTPS’s achievement, PDO continued to install dual-head wellheads following successful trials. Shown in the next page are NTPS’s key projects in 2006.
